The United Auto Racing Association (UARA) was formed in 2001 with the first race being held in March of 2002. The season consist of sixteen events the majority being 150 laps run in the southeast region at tracks that range from 1/3 mile speedways like Newport Speedway to the 1 mile track of Rockingham Speedway . The UARA runs a Late Model Stock car weighting 3100 lbs. with V-8 engine that produce about 500hp. The frames and bodies relate to the Premier racing series that is so popular today. The cars run on ten-inch wide Goodyear racing tires. When the Late Model Sportsman division changed over in the late 80’s to what is now know as the NASCAR Nationwide Series, the Late Model Stock division was created. These where created with the local racer in mind. With the increase of popularity of auto racing in the upper ranks of NASCAR, UARA-STARS has developed an affordable touring series to help drivers compete at other tracks and to fine tune their driving skills to make the leap to the next level. The UARA provides a place to race for the family man that wants to be at home with his family to racers that want the experience of traveling in a touring series without the pressures of a thirty-week schedule. The UARA is starting it's tenth season of racing action in 2011. There are more than 100 unique UARA drivers per year. Series highlights of drivers coming thru the ranks of the UARA: 2010 - Coleman Pressley son of NASCAR driver Robert Pressley wins UARA Championship 2010 - Robert Johnson son of NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee Junior Johnson wins Rookie of Year 2010 - UARA driver John King II makes impressive runs in the Camping World Truck Series. 2010 - UARA Regular Coleman Pressley runs 4 Nationwide Series Events 2009 - 2008 UARA Champion Jake Crum wins the Bailey’s 300 at Martinsville 2009 – The UARA will be the first Late Model Stock cars to run at the famed Rockingham Motor Speedway 2009 – 2008 Rookie of the Year Darrell Wallace, Jr. signed to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing 2009 – 2007 Rookie of the Year Matt DiBenedetto signed to drive for Joe Gibbs Racing. 2008 – 2004 UARA Champion Jason York wins the Bailey’s 300 at Martinsville 2007 - UARA has the first race ever run on the newly configured Bristol Motor Speedway 2006 – UARA regular Alex Yontz wins the Bailey’s 300 at Martinsville 2006 - The UARA-STARS were filmed at four different races by Mach 1 Productions for the movie Short Track that hit the stores in late 2008. The online presales were above expectations. 2006 - Series Champion Brandon Ward became the Hooters Rookie of the Year for 2007 2005 - UARA is the first Late Model Stock Series to run at the famed Bristol Motor Speedway 2005 - Series Champion Matt McCall Signed on with the Robert Yates Racing Organization 2005 - Kyle Grissom son of NASCAR driver Steve Grissom wins Rookie of the Year 2004 - Rookie of the Year, Steve Wallace signed on to drive for Rusty Wallace Inc. 2002 - Series Champion Danny O’Quinn, Jr. participated in a TV series and also signed on with Roush Racing Winning the NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the year. 2009 finds the genlte giant racing in the Nextel Cup Series for Johnny Davis Racing.
